Role of the film distributor

A film distributor is responsible for marketing and distributing films, including selling distribution rights to cinemas and streaming services. They work closely with producers to plan the film’s release strategy and promotion, aiming to bring the film to a wide audience through their network of contacts with cinemas, festivals, streaming platforms, and media. Distributors maximize a film’s revenue by negotiating favorable deals, selecting the best distribution channels, and choosing the optimal release window based on market trends and competition. They also ensure the film is presented in top condition with high-quality image and sound, and may organize special events or preview screenings to boost visibility. Effective distribution is essential for a film’s success and requires careful planning, industry knowledge, and strong decision-making skills to reach the intended audience and secure fair deals for filmmakers.
